Do you think you could handle being a therapist?

I myself like to think I have some knowledge on mental health, but I don't think I'd be capable of being a therapist or mental health doctor of any sort. I just can't see myself handling that kind of job well. I think I'd be too uncomfortable talking about a strangers problems. I could talk to family and friends, but strangers I don't think I could. I wouldn't know what to say either.

But, do you think you could take on a job like this? If given the chance, would you work as a mental health doctor, therapist or any doctor having to do with mental health?

I might be good at giving advice and listening with empathy, but I don’t think I could handle being a therapist. Therapy requires deep emotional endurance, clinical training, and the ability to separate personal feelings from professional responsibility. I respect therapists for the strength and skill it takes to support others every day.

Honestly, I don’t think I could handle being a therapist full time. I can listen and empathize, but carrying other people’s pain every day would be emotionally heavy. Therapists need to be a good listener, a good talker, and have patience. I respect the role a lot, but it’s not for everyone.
