Gender dysphoria can make routine school tasks feel overwhelming, especially when bathrooms, uniforms or group activities worsen discomfort. Some teens hide the distress until anxiety becomes severe. What should teachers look for? What small changes in school routines ease the pressure for students dealing with dysphoria?

This is a sensitive issue. The younger generation are already subjected to a lot of pressure, so adding that struggles makes it heavier. To tackle this, we need to provide a safe environment. School should feel safe, not the other way round.

Gender dysphoria can heighten school anxiety in young teens. Feeling out of place or misunderstood about one’s gender identity may trigger stress, social withdrawal, or fear of judgment. Supportive environments, affirming peers, and trained counselors can help reduce this anxiety and promote well-being.
