Gaming connects people globally but can also reduce real-world interaction. Are video games strengthening communities or increasing isolation? How should gaming be balanced with offline life?

There is something called too much. If you are spending many hours playing video games, you are certainly isolated. However, if you are a hobbyist gamer who spends only few hours occasionally, video games can help you cope with stress and anxiety.

Video games can contribute to social isolation when excessive play replaces real-life interaction, leading to reduced communication and connection. However, they can also foster social bonds through multiplayer experiences and online communities. The impact depends on usage, as balanced gaming can complement social life, while overuse may increase isolation and disconnection.

I think gaming can strengthen communities online, but it can also lead to isolation if it takes over most of your free time. Balancing it means enjoying games while still keeping regular offline social interactions and activities so you don’t lose touch with real-life connections. But sadly, most people cannot balance, they end up playing more, and lose touch with real people.
