For people that are obliged to care for other people either by virtue of their profession or position, there is every tendency that they would go through "Compassion Fatigue".

Compassion fatigue is when one is emotionally exhausted as a result of having to always care for people emotionally or physically.

How can these caregivers identify that "Compassion fatigue" has set in? And how do they handle it such that they themselves don't break down emotionally too?

When a caregiver starts to feel detached from the people they are supposed to care for, it is certain that compassion fatigue has set in. And I think at this point, it is better for them to take breaks from their role of caregiving.

Caring for others can become overwhelming, thus has happened to me many times. When this happens I try to rest, reflect, or do something restorative. I feel seeking support from friends, family, or professionals can help too. Balancing care for others with self care prevents burnout and preserves emotional well being.
