Depression can change how someone experiences and expresses affection. They may still love their partner but have less energy for hugs, dates, intimacy, or thoughtful gestures. How can couples talk about reduced affection without assuming the relationship is failing or making the person with depression feel guilty?

Yes, I think depression can affect affection between partners. Someone may have less energy, interest, or emotional availability, which can make affection feel difficult even when they still care deeply. The other partner might misunderstand the distance as rejection, so honest communication and patience can make a big difference.

Depression can affect affection between partners because low energy, emotional numbness, stress, or feeling disconnected are some of the things you experience in depression. And these can make physical and emotional closeness harder. It doesn’t necessarily mean the feelings have disappeared, though. Sometimes a partner may still care deeply but struggle to show affection in the same way as before.

Yes of course. Depression makes people to withdraw and keep to themselves most of the time. If they don't feel comfortable with you, they will never open up and that's why depression is very difficult to deal with.

Depression can change how affection is expressed in a relationship. Someone may still care deeply about their partner but struggle to show it because they feel tired, emotionally numb, or overwhelmed. This can create misunderstandings, especially when the other partner assumes the lack of affection means their feelings have changed.
