Someone with social anxiety may agree to requests they dislike because saying no feels too uncomfortable. They may worry about being judged, rejected, or considered rude. How does social anxiety interfere with healthy boundaries, and why can a simple refusal create so much emotional stress?

I think social anxiety can make setting boundaries difficult because you may worry about upsetting someone or being judged as rude. Saying no can feel much harder than agreeing, even when you’re uncomfortable. Sometimes people end up accepting things they don’t want simply to avoid an awkward interaction.

Social anxiety can make setting boundaries harder. There can be a fear of upsetting someone, being judged, or creating conflict, so it may feel easier to agree even when something feels uncomfortable. That can leave someone feeling frustrated and make it harder to speak openly about personal needs.

Social anxiety can make a simple “no” feel surprisingly difficult. There can be worries about disappointing someone, being rejected, or making the situation awkward. Even when the request is unreasonable, saying no may bring guilt and stress, so agreeing can feel like the easier choice at that moment.
