Even therapists need healing....

I have been working as a therapist for more than 16 years. I am a special educator and a certified therapists to provide family therapy to families with children and members who have special needs. Many people feel that everything is happy in my life from the way I present myself. I keep a positive attitude and smiling face. But therapists are human too. We have our own share of troubles and mental agony. We too need healing and therapy. I often talk to my counselor friend when I feel low. I come across so many cases that can be upsetting and drain my energy. Plus, everyone has their personal baggage..

No lies there. People act like therapists are superhumans, forgettiing that they also go through things too. Imagine listening to heavy stories every day, heartbreak, trauma, all sorts. That one alone can mess with anybody’s mind. I once talked to a counselor who said she sometimes breaks down after tough sessions. It’s why I believe even they need space and support. You just can’t pour from an empty cup

It is easy for a therapist to fall into depression himself or herself. Spending a whole day listening to the pains, trauma and fears of people can trigger a therapist into depression. It is always advisable that therapists themselves sit down and receive therapy to ensure those negative things they hear don't build up something in their minds.

Well, I haven't seen any therapist visit another therapist but I can assume that it is very normal. Just like we need a mirror to see ourselves, sometimes even therapist might need someone to analyze their feelings, emotions, and experiences and find a solution that might help them.

Therapists carry heavy stories and emotional weight from others. They often hold pain that does not belong to them, and the load becomes exhausting. Healing becomes necessary for their own balance and clarity. Support systems, supervision, reflection, rest, and honest vulnerability help them stay grounded and continue offering real care with strength and presence.

I believe even psychotherapists and mental health professionals need support. They deal with intense emotions and trauma regularly, which can accumulate. Seeking therapy or guidance themselves helps maintain balance, prevents burnout, and ensures they can support others effectively without compromising their own well-being.

Therapists are humans too, they aren't perfect and have their own personal problems. Therapists need to also see other therapists. We're all human and complex in our own ways, sometimes a therapist needs help just like we do.

I think their job can also weigh on them, having to hear personal problems on a daily basis, has to weigh on your mind somewhat. I imagine they hear horrible stories daily, have to deal with emotional people daily, it's got to weigh on them a lot.
