Generic Name: Ziprasidone

Primary Use: Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder

Dosage Forms:
  • Oral capsules of 20mg, 40mg, 60mg and 80mg
  • Injection IM: 20mg/mL
Common Side Effects:
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Weakness
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Headache
  • Increase weight
  • Restlessness
  • Tremors
  • Involuntary muscle movement
  • New or worsening cough
  • Runny nose
Serious side effects:
  • Light headedness
  • Chest pain
  • Fruity breath odour
  • Racy heart
  • Dry mouth
  • Tics
  • Increased thirst, urination and hunger
  • Sudden ill feeling
  • Sore throat
  • Mouth sores
  • Gingivitis
  • Dysphagia
  • Agitation
  • Blurred vision
  • Weight loss
  • Confusion
  • Sweating
  • High fever
How long should it be taken?

As per doctor’s discretion.

Effectiveness:
  • Studies have found Geodon effective for short-term use in schizophrenia between 20 -100 mg
  • Higher doses above 80mg of Geodon are not recommended.
  • Geodon is not safe or effective for under 18 years age-group.
