Some people rarely express anger because they learned that showing it is unacceptable or unsafe. Instead, frustration may appear as resentment, tension, withdrawal, or sudden emotional outbursts. How can suppressed anger affect mental health, and what makes healthy expression different from simply losing control?

I think suppressed anger can build up over time and show itself in ways you don’t expect. Someone might become unusually irritable, withdraw from others, or suddenly explode over something small. Constantly holding anger in can also be exhausting because you’re spending energy trying to hide an emotion instead of dealing with what caused it.

I think suppressed anger can build up until a small problem suddenly feels overwhelming. It may show up as irritability, withdrawal, resentment, or sudden outbursts. Healthy expression is different because you can communicate what upset you without trying to hurt or intimidate someone. The goal is understanding and boundaries, not simply releasing anger.

Holding anger in all the time can leave someone feeling tense, resentful, or emotionally exhausted. Sometimes it builds up until a small issue causes a much bigger reaction. Healthy expression isn’t about pretending anger doesn’t exist; it means being able to talk about what caused it without hurting yourself or someone else.

I think holding anger in for too long can really affect someone’s mood and relationships. It can leave you feeling tense or resentful, and eventually all that frustration may come out over something small. Personally, I’d rather talk about what’s bothering me than keep everything bottled up until it becomes too much.
