Repeated exposure to slurs, threats, and discriminatory content increases stress, anxiety, and isolation. This is compounded by societal stigma offline. Can mental health support be effectively integrated with online safety initiatives? How should families and communities respond?

Online hate speech can seriously impact the mental health of sexual minorities. Constant exposure to harassment, slurs, or targeted attacks increases stress, anxiety, and depression, and can make individuals feel unsafe or excluded from online communities they otherwise rely on for support.

Constantly hearing that your identity is false really brings a person down, I know this from experience. You fell less than human every time someone calls you by the wrong name or pronouns, but it gets amplified more when people start using slurs. I had to stop using Facebook for a while because I kept seeing transphobic posts, and I try to report them but they don't go against community standards unfortunately.
