Widespread corruption breeds hopelessness and cynicism among young citizens. Can prolonged exposure to injustice trigger depression or learned helplessness? How can societies restore purpose and trust for youth growing up in morally compromised systems?

Well, a few months ago, in our country, we witnessed a revolution that toppled the elected government in less than 48 hours, and this revolution was carried out by Gen Z. Boys and girls in school and college uniform marched on the street, faced gunfire and died for the country. Their demand was to end corruption. I believe corruption has affected youth psychologically, in many countries a bubble like this is going to burst soon.

Prolonged exposure to corruption and injustice can indeed trigger depression and learned helplessness among young citizens. Constantly witnessing unfairness erodes motivation and trust in institutions. Societies can restore purpose by promoting transparency, accountability, and civic engagement. Mentorship programs, youth leadership initiatives, and accessible avenues for meaningful participation help rebuild hope and empower young people to effect change despite systemic challenges.
