What are some myth's about mental health that you used to believe? I always believed people with mental illness were crazy, and I don't believe that's the case these days. I think we're all struggling with mental illness in our own way. It doesn't make someone crazy to suffer from it. Another myth I always thought was that mental health issues are a one off thing, as in they only happen once. I don't believe that anymore though as I know mental illness is a lifelong thing that we have to control ourselves.

What are some myth's you believed in around mental health that you learned wasn't the case when you got older?

I once had a misconception that mental illness was simply a strength issue. You know, you could shake it away with determination. Now I know that the notion is totally wrong. It is a sickness just like any other type of diseases. So, it requires understanding and proper treatment.

A few mental health myths many people once believed include thinking that only “weak” people experience mental health issues, that depression or anxiety is just temporary sadness or stress, that therapy is only for extreme situations, or that taking medication is a personal failure. Recognizing these misconceptions helps normalize seeking help and understanding mental health as a real, treatable part of overall wellbeing.

I used to believe that mental health issues could be cured alone by medication, however, it turns out that medication helps but it cannot cure alone, you also need to try therapy and even alternative methods
