Have you experienced blanking out on simple things during pressure moments? What helps you recover focus quickly in those situations?

Stress activates the body's threat response, which can make it harder to focus and hold information in working memory. Even if you know the material well, your brain may struggle to retrieve it because it's prioritizing coping with stress. Once you calm down, recall often improves.

When I'm under pressure, it's easy to forget something obvious or lose my train of thought. What helps is pausing for a moment, taking a slow breath, and focusing on just the next step instead of everything that needs to get done.

I think stress can make working memory less reliable because your attention becomes occupied by worries, pressure, or the need to react quickly. Even when you know the information, there may be less mental space available to retrieve and use it. That can explain why someone suddenly forgets something simple during a stressful moment and remembers it later when they feel calmer.

Stress can make it surprisingly hard to hold information in your mind, even when you already know it. When your attention is focused on worry or pressure, there’s less mental space for remembering details. That’s why names, instructions, or simple answers can suddenly disappear when you’re stressed.
