Do you have worse dreams when you're depressed?

When you're depressed or highly stressed, do you find that this has an adverse affect on your dreams? Maybe you end up having more nightmares, and have trouble getting to sleep because of it. There has been times where I've been stressed and I've had more vivid and scary dreams, but usually I don't have nightmares. Do you guys get bad nightmares when you're depressed and or stressed from day to day life?

I’ve noticed that too. When I’m feeling low, my dreams turn darker. Sometimes it’s not even nightmares, just weird and stressful dreams. I think it’s because your mind is still overthinking even while you’re asleep. Once I start feeling better mentally, my dreams calm down too. It’s funny how the brain works in that manner

Yes, that's just it. I've had the worse nightmares when I was down and sad. It was not always funny because in most of those dreams, I was always terrified.

When I have been very stressed or tend to be more depressed than usual, I have noticed a pattern in which I start to have dreams that are based on what I am stressed or depressed about, but these dreams tend to always have an outcome I have noticed, and the outcomes tend to make me worry a little more, which then causes more stress or depression.
