Feeds prioritize content based on engagement, potentially affecting emotions, attention, and worldview. Are algorithms enhancing user experience, or subtly shaping behavior, opinions, and mental health? Should platforms be more transparent, or is this simply the cost of personalized digital life?

There is a real debate around this. Algorithms are designed to keep people engaged, and they often push emotionally charged content because it gets more reactions. That can influence mood without us noticing, especially when negativity or controversy performs better. I’ve seen people around me feel drained after scrolling for long periods. It feels like social media can shape emotions if we don’t control our usage patterns.

I think algorithms do both, they can make content more relevant and engaging, but they also subtly shape opinions, attention, and emotions by prioritizing what gets seen. Platforms should be more transparent about how content is curated, so users can be aware and make conscious choices, rather than passively letting algorithms influence their mental health and worldview. But sadly this is not happening.
