Compulsive Hoarding is a disorder in which individuals have difficulties parting with items. This can pose a threat to their health, and can cause structural damage to their homes as well. Most hoarders start showing symptoms after a traumatic life event, and many are a shame for their disorder. This usually causes them to be hesitant on seeking help, and may not reach out for help until the last minute. Have you ever dealt with a loved one who had this disorder or known anyone that has this disorder?

I’m not an expert, but I see compulsive hoarding as when someone struggles to let go of things, even if they don’t really need them. It often feels tied to anxiety or fear of regret. Over time, it can slowly fill up their space and make everyday living more stressful.

My daughter, for the longest time, was big on hoarding things, and I know I used to be when I was younger. Luckily, my mum used to pull me up about it a lot when I used to hoard as a kid, and her doing that meant that I grew to stop hoarding things unless I really needed to keep them.

My daughter is getting better at not hoarding stuff, but I still, from time to time, have to pull her up about it.
