Did Lobotomy actually work on people? Or did it cause future damage?

I've always been freaked out about Lobotomy, and how damaging it can be to people. Thankfully they no longer use this sort of treatment in the US anymore. I believe no other country does Lobotomies anymore, but there are similar styles of treatment, but differ in how they're done.

Anyway, do you know anyone who may have had a Lobotomy one time in their life? Maybe a relative of yours or a family friend. I heard the last time a Lobotomy was done in the US was back in the late 60s, so it's been quite a while since they were used.

Do you think it actually worked though? From what I read it was a mixed bag, and while some did okay after, a lot of people had brain damage as a result, which made them sometimes worse than when they came in.

I believe it just caused future damage to those who got one done. Just look at what happened with Rosemary Kennedy, she did have some developmental delays and because the family didn't know how to help her when she would get upset, they made her get a lobotomy. Afterwards she became fully disabled and unable to take care of herself so it made things worse. I'm glad lobotomies are no longer performed on people, they were inhumane.
