Being late is often treated as poor planning, but people with ADHD can experience time differently and struggle to estimate how long tasks will take. Why does ADHD affect time management, and what practical approaches can help with appointments, deadlines, commuting, and everyday responsibilities?

ADHD can definitely make time management harder because estimating how long tasks will take, staying focused, and remembering deadlines can be challenging. Someone might plan to spend 30 minutes on a task and suddenly realize two hours have passed. This can make everyday schedules feel surprisingly difficult to manage.

ADHD can make time management difficult because tasks often take longer than expected. Using alarms, calendars, reminders, and written schedules can make deadlines easier to manage. Breaking large tasks into smaller steps can also reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed and make it easier to stay focused.

When it comes to large tasks, break it down into smaller tasks or take on a small section at a time until it gets done.

When you have to complete a lot of tasks, write it down what you need to do. Then you can initial each task that you complete so you know you've done that and your boss can keep track of your progress without having to distract you.
