Does Constant Availability Create Hidden Pressure?

I am always online, I am reachable 24 X 7. I work online and I have clients in different time zones, so I justify myself that constant availability is very important to me. Well, not just me, I see a lot of people are available at anytime. Being reachable all the time feels normal now. Do you think being available always create any kind of mental health issues? Is constant availability creating any kind of pressure. Are you also constantly available? Do you feel guilty replying late? How do you manage expectations around availability?

Yes, it often does. Being reachable all the time creates an unspoken expectation to respond, perform, and stay alert. Over time, that pressure adds stress, blurs boundaries, and makes real rest harder, even when no one directly asks for more.

One thing that I don't like about being constantly available is that one must be able to switch roles instantly. On the spot, while you are taking care of your child, a business email can come in and you have to make the switch instantly from a parent to a marketer/ salesperson, CEO. That can be mentally exhausting.

Yes, constant availability can make even small tasks feel urgent, keeping your mind on alert. It can lead to mental fatigue, reduce downtime, and make it harder to focus on deep work or simply relax.
