Some people spend excessive time deciding what to buy, say, study, accept, or avoid because they fear choosing incorrectly. This can turn ordinary decisions into stressful events. How does fear of making the wrong choice affect mental health, and what keeps indecision going?

Sometimes, especially with decisions that feel important. Even simple choices, like accepting an opportunity or deciding whether to spend money, can lead to overthinking the possible outcomes. I think the fear of regretting a decision can make people delay choices that don’t actually need that much thought.

Fear of making the wrong choice can turn even simple decisions into exhausting mental debates. I think indecision often continues because we keep searching for complete certainty before acting. The more we overthink possible consequences, the less confident we feel, which can create a cycle of doubt, avoidance, and even more anxiety.

I think fear of making the wrong choice can make even ordinary decisions feel much bigger than they are. You start imagining everything that could go wrong and keep changing your mind. Sometimes the fear of regretting a decision becomes more stressful than the decision itself.
