Has depression ever caused you to lose your job?

Has there ever been a time where your depression ended up costing your job? As in you lose your job because your mental health is weighing too much on you. Maybe your work isn't getting done, or you're not doing the work properly, or skipping out on work or calling in too much. I've never lost a job because of my depression, but I will say that my depression has had an affect on my work to some extent. Thankfully I never lost a job because of it.

Has depression ever caused you to lose your job? And how did you overcome it?

I have been in depression because of the work pressure and a toxic boss but I know how to relieve stress and that's the reason my depression never mounted to an extent that I lost my job and everyone must let it effect to that extent.

It has not happened to me in person but I have seen people who lost their jobs due to depression. In fact , it happened to a very close friend of mine. When depression hits, your focus just disappears. It’s not that you don’t care, you just can’t continue to push through because everything is upside- down. I wish more workplaces understood that mental health struggles are real, and not all are caused by laziness. People need to be supported, not judged.

In the year 2021, I was depressed due to not having a great, suitable job. I am in the same condition as of now. Unemployment and financial problems can lead to huge problems. However, I haven't lost a job due to depression alone.

It caused me to quit my job.

Almost 3 years ago, I left a job I had been with for 13 years.

The management treated me like crap and assigned all the stuff they didn't want to do to me. They overwhelmed me and would never help me when I needed it the most.

I finally had enough, put my two weeks' notice in, and got the heck away from that nightmare.

It was stressing me out so much, I was giving myself ulcers.

I quit without a new job lined up.

Luckily, a career was waiting for me around the corner. :)

No, depression hasn’t caused me to lose my job. But I’ve seen it happen to others, and it’s genuinely sad. It shows how little support many workplaces offer when someone is struggling with mental health, even though it can affect anyone.

Depression has not really caused me to lose my job as a paid staff. But as a business person, I have lost gigs that I was supposed to do simply because I was depressed. It is always depression taking away the mental strength to complete orders and the client angrily taking the order from me. That is why I have tried my best to avoid negative energy in my life.
