Holding back emotions may prevent conflict temporarily, but it can create distance and misunderstanding over time. How do you know when you are suppressing emotions? What helps express feelings in healthier ways?

Emotional suppression can make relationships more difficult by reducing openness and emotional connection. When feelings are consistently hidden, others may struggle to understand what someone is thinking or experiencing, which can lead to misunderstandings and distance.
In the long run, suppressed emotions may build up and emerge as irritability, withdrawal, or unexpected outbursts. It can also make it harder to ask for support or resolve conflicts effectively. While occasional restraint can be useful, relying on suppression too often may weaken communication and trust.

I usually realize I'm suppressing emotions when I become unusually quiet, irritable, or keep replaying the same thoughts in my mind. Acknowledging how I feel, talking with someone I trust, or writing my thoughts down before discussing them calmly instead of bottling everything up help me all the time
