When a friend has depression, it can be difficult to know whether to check in, give space, or encourage professional help. Constant advice can feel overwhelming, but disappearing completely can also hurt. What does useful friendship support actually look like when someone is struggling with depression?

I think being present without constantly trying to fix things can be really helpful. Sometimes a friend just needs someone who will listen, check in, or sit with them. Small gestures, like sending a message or inviting them for a walk, can mean more than expected.
