Exam stress does not always stay inside the classroom. Students may lie awake thinking about grades, unfinished revision, or possible failure, making concentration harder the next day. How does exam anxiety interfere with sleep, and what can students do when worrying about sleep becomes another source of stress?

Exam anxiety can make it hard to switch off at night, especially when you keep worrying about results or replaying everything you studied. You might lie awake for hours, wake up repeatedly, or feel exhausted the next morning. The frustrating part is that poor sleep can make concentration and memory worse, adding even more pressure before the exam.

Exam anxiety can keep the mind racing long after studying ends, making it hard to fall asleep or stay asleep. Then students start worrying about not getting enough rest, which creates another cycle of stress. Trying to force sleep usually makes it worse; a calmer bedtime routine, less late-night revision, and accepting that one imperfect night won’t ruin everything can help.
