Brand Name: Seroquel

Generic Name: Quetiapine

Primary Use: Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder

Dosage Forms:
  • Oral tablets of 25mg, 50mg, 100mg, 150mg, 200mg, 300mg and 400mg
  • Oral tablets (Extended Release) ER: 50mg, 150 mg, 200mg, 300mg and 400mg
Side Effects include:
  • Decrease in white blood cell count
  • Cough
  • Increase in blood sugar levels
  • Confusion
  • Bleeding tendency
  • Rigid muscles
  • Seizures
  • Visual disturbances
  • Sudden numbness/ weakness
  • Raise in blood pressure
  • Changes in heart rate
  • Difficulty in swallowing
  • Constipation
  • Painful micturition
  • Missed periods
  • Impotence
  • Nipple discharge
  • Tender and swollen breasts
  • Tics
Rare side effects:
  • Tardive dyskinesia (movement disorder)
  • Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (high fever, muscle rigidity, altered mental status, autonomic instability)

How long should it be taken?
