If you're dealing with a lot at a given moment, maybe it's depression, anxiety, stress or something else weighing on you, what's the one thing you can trust to help you calm down a bit? I think for me, gaming has helped somewhat, but it's not enough sometimes. I've had days where when I'm down, I'm not even in the mood to play any games or do anything fun.

I found that eating food can calm me down some, but that's another bad habit I do not want, so I try to find other things to help calm me down. Cannabis helps a lot too. What are some things you do to help you calm down when you're really depressed or down?

For me, it’s quiet music and cold drinks like Heineken. I would just find somewhere calm, plug in my earphones, and play Burna or Asa. The peace hits differently when you’re alone. Sometimes I also pray a little or gist with a close friend. I remember one day I was so stressed, I just took a long walk to buy snacks and that fresh air helped more than I expected.

When things get rough, I always find succour in talking to my best friend. He has always been my confidant and we always have each other's backs in those very rough times.

Taking time out to read usually does because it helps me to get my mind off of things for a short period of time.

When things get rough, I usually calm myself by taking a few deep breaths and stepping outside for a moment. Feeling the air, noticing sounds around me, and just pausing helps me reset and regain a bit of control over my thoughts.

Walking. When things get rough, I try to go outside for a long walk. I have been walking for physical fitness and mental health for a long time. I also sometimes engage in breathing exercises that can calm my nerves instantly.

Singing, humming, and even whistling works for me. I noticed years ago that I tend to hum a lot, especially when I'm in a good mood, but also, humming a song helps put me IN a good mood. I've always loved to sing and that is a stress reliever too. Joining a choir helps feel those good musical vibes even if it's only for a couple of hours. I recommend people look into music therapy for stress or other conditions.
