Low motivation, emotional numbness, or severe distress can make basic self-care tasks feel exhausting. This often affects self-esteem as well. What makes self-care harder during tough periods? What small routines help maintain consistency?

Maintaining personal hygiene can become difficult when mental or physical energy is low. Depression, stress, or burnout can reduce motivation for basic routines, making even small tasks feel overwhelming. It’s not about neglect in the usual sense, but a reduced capacity to consistently initiate and complete everyday self-care.

I think personal hygiene can become difficult when someone is dealing with stress, low motivation, exhaustion, or a major change in routine. Even simple things like showering or brushing your teeth can feel like extra work. It’s easy to judge yourself for it, but sometimes it’s a sign that something deeper needs attention.
