Why Can Small Setbacks Feel Larger Than They Are?

In recovery, a minor slip can sometimes feel like a major failure. This may be linked to past experiences or fear of relapse. How do you reframe setbacks? What helps you see progress even when things temporarily worsen?

Because they stack up. One flat tire by itself is annoying. But add it to a bad day at work, no sleep, and a forgotten deadline? Suddenly that tire feels personal. It's not the size of the setback, it's the weight of everything else you're already carrying. Small things just tip the scale.

Small setbacks tend to stack up quickly and if you're already struggling with every day life the small setbacks tend to feel worse than they really are. It's even worse when it's work related in my opinion, because you feel like you do everything right and then you messed up once. People also handle setbacks differently than others, what may feel small to one person could feel large to another.
