Someone with depression may want new friendships but feel unable to make the first move. Introducing themselves, replying to messages, or suggesting plans can require more energy than expected. Why does depression make social initiation difficult, and how can people stay connected without forcing themselves into exhausting interactions?

I think depression can make initiating friendships feel exhausting because even a simple message can feel like a big effort. There may also be worries about being rejected or having nothing interesting to say. When energy and motivation are already low, starting a conversation can feel like another responsibility rather than something enjoyable.
