Exposure to parental arguments or instability can cause somatic symptoms, withdrawal, or aggression. Why does anxiety manifest differently in these environments, and what support can teachers or caregivers provide?

Children in high-conflict homes often experience anxiety differently because their environment trains their stress system to stay on alert.
Instead of just worrying about specific situations, their anxiety can become more constant and generalized. They may be more sensitive to tone, conflict, or changes in mood, even in neutral settings.
This can show up in different ways than peers, not always as obvious fear, but sometimes as irritability, withdrawal, difficulty concentrating, or people-pleasing behavior.
