A person may avoid mentioning certain thoughts, behaviors, or experiences during therapy out of embarrassment or fear of being judged. This can happen even when they trust their therapist. Why is it difficult to be completely open in therapy, and how can that affect the treatment process?

I can see why someone might hide things from their therapist. Some topics feel embarrassing, painful, or difficult to explain, especially when there’s fear of being judged. Sometimes a person may not even realize they’re avoiding something until the conversation gets close to it.
