Being interrupted is usually a minor social experience, yet some people react much more strongly than expected. It may leave them feeling ignored, dismissed, or angry for the rest of the conversation. What psychological factors can make interruptions feel more personal than they actually are?

Interruptions can be frustrating when they make you feel like your time or attention doesn’t matter. Being cut off during a conversation can also leave you feeling unheard, especially when you were trying to explain something important. Repeated interruptions can build irritation quickly, even when each one seems minor.
