During burnout, even ordinary work tasks can feel strangely exhausting. Someone may know exactly what needs to be done but still struggle to start or finish it. How can you tell when difficulty concentrating and completing simple tasks is normal tiredness and when it may be a sign of workplace burnout?

I think burnout can make even simple tasks feel exhausting because your mind is already running on empty. Things that normally take little effort suddenly require a lot of concentration. I’ve noticed that when I’m mentally drained, even replying to a message can feel surprisingly difficult.

I’ve had times when I was so tired from work that even easy tasks felt like a lot. For me, burnout seems different when that feeling sticks around. You keep putting things off, can’t focus, feel drained before the day even starts, and just don’t have the energy you normally would.

When your mind is already drained, something as basic as answering a message, doing the dishes, or making a phone call can feel like a huge effort. The task itself hasn’t changed, but your energy and motivation to deal with it have.
