Moving to a new place, starting a new job, or entering a new relationship can be exciting and stressful at the same time. Why do positive changes sometimes affect mental health so strongly?
I think positive change can still feel difficult because it takes us away from what's familiar. Even when we know something better is ahead, there's still uncertainty and a period of adjustment. Sometimes we miss the old routine before we have a chance to feel comfortable with the new one.
New routines, responsibilities, and expectations can be mentally exhausting, even when we're excited about them. Happiness and stress aren't opposites, so it's completely possible to feel grateful for a new chapter while also feeling overwhelmed by the adjustment.
