Someone experiencing depression may stop joining family meals, outings, or conversations even when they still care deeply about everyone. Relatives can interpret this as rejection or laziness. Why does depression reduce interest in everyday family activities, and what can relatives do without putting pressure on the person?

I think depression can make family activities feel exhausting because even things that were once enjoyable may stop feeling rewarding. Low energy, poor concentration, and emotional heaviness can make someone want to stay alone. Family members might take that withdrawal personally, even though the person may simply be struggling to participate.
