Why does emotional regulation feel harder in private than in public?

Do you hold it together around others but feel overwhelmed once you’re alone? What changes when you’re alone, and how do you cope with that shift?

Emotional regulation often feels harder in private because there's less social pressure to stay composed. Alone, people can fully experience emotions without needing to manage appearances. Fatigue, accumulated stress, and unprocessed feelings may also surface once external demands disappear.
