I think stress puts the brain into a heightened state where everything feels more important than it really is. Small tasks can seem like emergencies, making it hard to prioritize. Once stress starts to ease, it's usually much easier to see what actually needs immediate attention and what can wait.
When I'm stressed, everything starts to feel urgent, even tasks that could easily wait. In such situations I keep on reminding myself to deal with one thing at a time instead of trying to solve everything at once.
