Can Food Really Affect Your Mood?

People say “you are what you eat.” Have you noticed mood swings or calmness linked to certain foods? What meals or diets help you stay mentally stable and focused?

Food affects my mood. If I get to eat what I love to eat, if I eat to my heart content, I will be in a better mood, if I am offered food that I do not like to eat, or if I don't get to earn food that I love to eat, I will be in pretty bad mood. I am epicurean by nature, so I enjoy eating. And eating uplifts my mood.

Yes, balanced meals with protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs stabilize mood. Sugary or processed foods often trigger irritability.

Food is capable of changing your mood. It has happened to me multiple times. I noticed that I would feel very low when I consumed instant noodles and soda. But once I began consuming fruit and real African foods, I was less heavy and less tense. So, I believe that what you eat is what the brain responds to and that can influence our mood. I even used it as a therapy, so after having a bad day, I prepare a simple dish that is warm and simple like rice and stew. It helps a little.

Food definitely has an affect on our mental health. If you eat unhealthy foods often, I imagine it can weigh on you. Not only can it increase your weight, that will also cause depression and anxiety from the weight gain. Not only that, but some foods, and eating too much of it, can cause your brain chemistry to go out of control. Not only that, food can affect your health in many other ways, not only gaining weight, but could cause diabetes, and other health conditions if you just let your diet go to waste.
