After an argument, some people repeatedly imagine what they should have said, what the other person meant, or how the conversation could have gone differently. Why does the mind keep returning to unresolved conflicts, and when does replaying an argument become emotionally exhausting rather than useful?

Sometimes, especially when I feel like I could have explained myself better. I’ll replay the conversation and think about what I should have said differently. Usually, it doesn’t change anything, but it’s hard not to revisit the argument when something about it is still bothering me.

I think the mind keeps returning to an argument because it wants some sense of closure. We replay what was said, looking for a better response or trying to understand the other person’s intentions. It becomes exhausting when we keep analyzing the same conversation without gaining anything new from it.
