Beginning therapy can sometimes bring relief, but it can also uncover emotions someone has been avoiding for years. Feeling tired, upset, or unusually reflective afterward can be confusing. Why can starting therapy bring up unexpected emotions, and how can people give themselves time to adjust?

I think starting therapy can bring up emotions you weren’t expecting, especially when you begin talking about things you’ve avoided for a long time. Someone might feel sadness, anger, relief, or even confusion afterward. Opening up can be uncomfortable, but it may also help explain feelings that seemed difficult to understand.
