Some people experience emotions so intensely that family disagreements quickly become overwhelming. They may need time alone before they can discuss what happened calmly. How does emotional dysregulation affect arguments at home, and what can families do when conversations repeatedly become more intense than anyone intended?

I think emotional dysregulation can make family arguments escalate quickly because strong feelings become difficult to manage in the moment. Someone might react much more intensely than they intended and regret it later. When everyone is already stressed, one emotional reaction can easily turn a small disagreement into something bigger.
