I recently stumbled upon a research paper that was published in 2024, in Psychiatry Research. The paper was based on a study carried among 73 thousands participants in the UK carried by Imperial College London. The research pointed that those who go to bed after 1 am had higher chances of getting depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and neurodevelopmental conditions. However, those who slept before 1 am were under lesser risk of mental health conditions.
Are you an night own, how are you coping with your mental health conditions, if any?

I see problem is with studies like these. They do small sampling.
I believe night owls aren’t automatically at higher risk of mental health problems, but there is some association worth understanding.
Staying up late regularly can affect sleep quality and circadian rhythm, especially if it leads to inconsistent schedules or not getting enough rest. Poor sleep over time is linked with higher stress, mood issues, and lower emotional regulation.

I used to be a night owl when I was younger and I honestly felt like I was a bit moodier at times when I was younger because of it. I would end up sleeping late in the day too and I felt groggy when I would get up. Sleep disorders certainly can lead to mental and physical health problems.

Night owls can face higher mental health risks, mainly due to disrupted sleep patterns. Late sleep timing is linked with anxiety, depression, and lower mood stability. Irregular routines and reduced sunlight exposure can also affect circadian rhythms, energy levels, and emotional regulation over time if habits stay inconsistent.
Thankfully I am not a night owl.

I have always been a night owl ever since I was around 13 - 14 years old. I always preferred it when the night was quiet, and I could just sit, do the things I enjoyed and not be disturbed.

I do suffer with anxiety and depression, but had no clue that being a night owl could have had something to do with that, because I was in a mentally abusive relationship up until the end of 2014 from 2003, and due to what I went through, I know that also affected my mental health considerably.
