After a panic attack ends, some people remain nervous about having another one. They may monitor their heartbeat, avoid certain places, or worry about physical sensations. Why can panic disorder create this ongoing fear, and what helps someone feel safe again without constantly checking their body for symptoms?

I think the body can take some time to settle after a panic attack, even when the immediate fear has passed. You might still feel shaky, tired, tense, or unusually alert afterward. That lingering feeling can also make someone worry another attack is coming, which can keep the anxiety going.
