Planning a weekend outing or arranging several ordinary appointments may sound easy, yet the process can leave some people exhausted before anything actually happens. Comparing options, anticipating problems, and organizing details can all require mental effort. What psychological factors make planning so draining?

Sometimes even simple plans can feel exhausting when your mind is already busy. Deciding where to go, when to go, what to bring, and dealing with possible changes can create more stress than expected. When there’s already a lot going on, making one more plan can feel overwhelming.

Planning can become draining if every decision feels like it needs to be perfect. Comparing options, worrying about things going wrong, and trying to remember every detail can keep the mind constantly working. For someone already stressed or mentally tired, even simple plans can start feeling like a major task.

I'll only feel mentally drained after making a plan and find out none of my plans would work out. It would feel like I have just wasted all my time for nothing.

Planning can drain some people because it makes them overthink and they are anxious of what the outcome would be. They are already afraid they wouldn't be able to meet up. Dealing with that kind of stress makes planning harder.
