Why does burnout feel different from just being tired?

Have you ever felt completely drained even after rest, where motivation just does not return normally? How do you recognize burnout early before it becomes overwhelming?

I think burnout goes beyond being tired. A good night's sleep usually helps with normal fatigue, but burnout leaves you mentally drained, unmotivated, and disconnected from things you normally care about. It can take much longer to recover because the exhaustion is emotional as well as physical.

It's normal for a person to feel tired after you've come home from work. It's another thing to feel burnout from your job because they went from having enough people to get everything done to expecting people to do the work of 3 or 4 people. Those are two very different things, in my mind at least. That happened at my previous job and that's why I left. I'm happier at my present job than I was at my last job. Less stress because I'm doing one job and not the job of multiple people. Plus, I get paid more money now than I was getting paid at my previous job. I'm all for more money and less stress.
