People may feel embarrassed discussing angry thoughts, arguments, or reactions that they regret. They may worry their therapist will judge them. Why can anger be difficult to discuss honestly in therapy, and how important is it to describe these reactions accurately during treatment?

Talking about anger with a therapist can feel uncomfortable, especially if someone worries they’ll be judged, misunderstood, or seen as a bad person. Anger can also cover deeper emotions like hurt, fear, shame, or frustration. Admitting those feelings openly can feel surprisingly vulnerable, even in a safe conversation.
