A friend experiencing emotional overload may suddenly become quiet, cancel plans, or struggle to respond normally. It can be difficult to know whether they need company or space. What signs suggest someone is emotionally overwhelmed, and how can friends offer support without asking too many questions?

I think emotional overload can show up in small changes. A friend might become unusually quiet, lose patience over little things, cancel plans, or seem mentally somewhere else. I’ve noticed that simply checking in without pushing them to explain everything can help. Sometimes knowing someone is there is enough to make things feel lighter.
