Why Anger Becomes Difficult to Control Under Stress?

People who normally manage frustration well may become much more irritable during periods of stress, poor sleep, or emotional exhaustion. Why does stress lower the threshold for anger, and how can someone recognize the early signs before frustration turns into shouting, withdrawal, or behavior they later regret?

I think stress can make anger harder to control because there’s already so much tension building up. When you’re tired or overwhelmed, even a small frustration can feel much bigger than it normally would. Sometimes the anger isn’t really about that one moment, but everything that has accumulated beforehand.

Stress can make small problems feel much bigger because your mind and body are already running on limited energy. I’ve had times when I reacted more strongly than usual simply because I was already overwhelmed. Noticing signs like tension, impatience, or wanting to shut down can help before emotions take over.
